In order to promote, integrate and disseminate research in various Medical fields, some awards have been decided by AMU (Association for Medical Updates) to be presented during the Annual Conference every year.

Guidelines for awards

Dr. Har Kishan Bedi Senior Scientist Award:

Eligibility

This is the highest award bestowed by AMU in recognition of a scientist’s significant research, education, and service contributions to society. The work must have been done primarily in India. The award will be open to a person in the age group of 50-65 years (as on date of announcement), a citizen of India with the significant accomplishments as documented by the track-record of scientific achievements in addition to contribution in medical science. The award would carry a plaque/shawl, a certificate of honour and a medal. The nominee should have attended at least two AMU conferences in last 3 years. The applicant would provide a completed data sheet along with documents of proof attached (soft copy would be acceptable), and a brief note on:

  • Statement of research achievements and Outreach (200 words max).
  • Contributions to teaching and promotion of Medical science (200 words max)
Presentation of the awards

The selected candidate would be informed and specially invited through a ‘Letter of Invitation’ from the President of AMU. The awardee would be required to make an oration of 5 minutes duration in a ‘Special session’ to be scheduled preferably on the first day of the conference (AMUCON) (generally before lunch) to be chaired/co-chaired by President and Secretary-AMU. A stalwart in Medical science / prominent personality of AMU/President-AMU would confer the award after the oration and Secretary-AMU would read a ‘citation’ in favour of the awardee giving details of his/her achievements

Payment of TA/DA

The travel ticket (by economy class cheapest air-fare/2nd AC train fare/EC shatabdi fare) to the Senior Scientist Awardee will be sent/reimbursed by the AMU for attending the award ceremony, while a ‘Free local hospitality including accommodation and registration’ to be extended by the organizers of AMUCON of that year

Mid-Career Scientist Award

Eligibility

The award is to recognize the outstanding contributions of a mid-career scientist between the age group of 35-50 years (as on the date of announcement of award that year) in basic and applied research in medicine and medical education. The work must have been done entirely in India. The nominee should be an AMU life member for at least 2 years and should have attended at least one AMU conferences in last 3 years. The award would carry a cash a certificate of honor and a medal. The applicant/nominee should provide a completed data-sheet with documents of proof attached, and a brief note of:

  • Statement of research achievements and Outreach (200 words max)
  • Contributions to teaching and promotion of medical science (200 words max)
Presentation of the awards

The President-AMU will invite the Mid-career awardee through a ‘Letter of Invitation’. The awardee would be required to make a (5+3 minutes) presentation of his/her work open to question/answers by the audience in a special session to be chaired/co-chaired by Two Vice-Presidents of AMU / prominent personality of AMU. The award will be presented by a senior member /dignitary/Vice Presidents after the oration.

Payment of TA/DA

The travel expenses by 2nd-AC/Shatabdi-EC/equivalent would be reimbursed by AMU. The organizers of AMUCON that year to extend ‘Complementary’ local hospitality including accommodation and registration to the mid-career awarde

Dr Nutan Bedi Memorial Award

Association for Medical Updates announces “Dr Nutan Bedi Memorial Award” in memory of its life member Dr Nutan Bedi, Professor, Opthalmogy. Honouring the memory of Dr Nutan Who was one of pioneer member of AMU, most loved teacher among her students thisaward supports undergraduate and graduate students for their academic merit and achievements.

The award would carry a cash prize, a certificate of honor and a medal. The undergraduate or postgraduate applicant/nominee student should provide a completed data-sheet with documents of proof attached, and a brief note of their academic excellence.

DR. F.S. MEHTA AWARD

Dr. F. S. Mehta Oration has been instituted in 2023 in the name of Dr Fatah Singh Mehta, who is an eminent surgeon, as well as a Patron of association and one of its distinguished pioneers. The Oration is awarded to an eminent surgeon or a physician/health care professional who has made significant contributions to medical science. The selected Orator will be a recognized leader in one or more of the sub-specialties with a record of scientific publications or an exceptionally high merit with demonstrable impact of his/her research on the health impact

“AMU EXCELLENCE” Award

Association for Medical updates announces “ AMU EXCELLENCE Award to recognize, acknowledge, and reward its life members for exceptional achievement as international/national fellowship, establishments of new course, patents, development/ modification of guidelines, equipment designed,publication( paper/book). The award carries a cash prize, a certificate of honor, and a medal.

General Rules For Awards

For any paper to be considered for an award, it shall be necessary for the author to upload abstract of the paper, by a date determined by the Chairman, Awards Committee.

  • To be eligible for the award, the paper must fulfill each of the following criteria
    • It should be a research paper based on work done in India and must not have been published in a scientific journal nor presented at a National or International Conference.
    • The principal author and at least 50% of all authors and the person presenting the paper must be members of the AMU
  • The abstract received for consideration for the Awards shall be considered by a panel of judges appointed by the Chairman, Awards Committee, who shall select papers of sufficient merit for final rating at the time of presentation. Out of the papers considered to be of sufficient merit by majority of judges, the Chairman, Awards Committee, only five papers will be selected and allow to the presentation in each Award category, at the Annual Conference
  • A panel of judges will be appointed by the Chairman, Awards Committee. Out of the total marks, 60% will be for novelty of topic and content of the paper and 40% for its presentation at the Conference. The paper with the highest pooled rank order shall be declared the winner, In case of a tie; both the papers will be declared as joint winners
  • All the authors of the Award winning papers, who are the members of the AMU, shall be considered to have won the award and will be issued certificates.
  • No paper shall be eligible to contest for an award, where a member who has won that award in the immediately preceding year appears as an author or co-author
  • The practical and logistic problems from time to time in assessment process will be dealt with appropriately by the Chairman Awards Committee in consultation with President
  • No one paper or substantially similar paper shall win more than one award on the basis of presentation at the Annual Conference, in case more than one award is announced at a Conference
  • The paper can be considered only for the category for which it has been nominated
